The Journey Home

This art and poetry book is based on the theme of recovery from mental illness / severe depression. The artist, Lorraine Nicholson, needed a design to showcase her work, without detracting from her art.

Lorraine's photography is so striking, we needed to find a consistent way to showcase her poetry, without detracting from her imagery. Landscape images took on a full page, but portrait images allowed this layout, to provide variation.
Lorraine asked that I take her original artwork, and integrate the photographs of her auntie in a creative way.
Some of Lorraine's artwork was provided to me with more than one image. Rather than being forced to choose between which piece to display, I was able to blend the images to enhance their meaning, and facilitate the inclusion of both, with Lorraine's approval.
